Pros of the Slant Board Guy Professional Slant Board

One of the biggest pros of the slant board is how it allows you to get those knees over the toes. This is huge for strengthening the muscles around the knee, especially the VMO (that teardrop-shaped muscle on the inside of your thigh).

When you do regular squats, your knees often stay in line with your ankles. The slant board shifts that angle, placing more emphasis on your quads and less on your glutes and hamstrings. This means better quad activation and overall leg development.

Another key benefit? It reduces the ankle mobility required to hit deep squats. If you’ve got stiff ankles or calves, this is going to let you go deeper while keeping an upright torso. So even if you can squat deep flat-footed, the slant board offers a totally different training effect and movement pattern.

Cons of the Slant Board

There aren’t a lot of cons, but if I had to list one, it’s the width. The board is only about a foot and a half wide, which may be a limitation for taller folks or those who prefer a wider squat stance. With wedges, you can play with width and angle more freely.

Still, most people will be fine. The elevation reduces the need for excessive dorsiflexion, so you can often bring your stance in narrower without losing depth or comfort.

Is It Worth It?

In one word—yes. I highly recommend the Slant Board Guy Professional Slant Board for anyone from beginner to advanced. It changes your training stimulus, lets you target new muscles, and improves your squat depth in a joint-friendly way.

3 Ways to Use the Slant Board in Your Training

1. Warm-Up with Heel Taps

Start your session with single-leg heel taps on the board. This primes your knees and gets blood flowing through the quads and hips. Try 10–15 reps per leg for 1–2 sets before your main workout. Bonus: it builds toward pistol squats over time.

2. Deep Strength Work

Use it for squats! The slant board lets you hit deeper squats with an upright torso and less ankle strain. Perfect for loading the quads and strengthening the VMO. Start light to master form—knees forward, torso upright—then add weight like any compound lift.

3. Stretching and Mobility

Use the board to stretch your calves, ankles, and hamstrings. Hinge at the hips like a Romanian deadlift—don’t round your back. Hold for 60–90 seconds. You can also try a single-leg variation for a deeper stretch.
